PE是高壓聚乙烯的通稱,是丁二烯經聚合物制取的一種熱塑性塑料。在工業生產上,也包含丁二烯與小量α-烯烴的預聚物。高壓聚乙烯無臭,無毒性,觸感似蠟,具備優質的耐寒特性(更少應用溫度達到-70~-100℃),有機化學可靠性好,可耐大部分強酸強堿的腐蝕(不抗具備空氣氧化特性的酸),常溫狀態不溶解一般有機溶劑,吸水能力小,絕緣特性優質;但高壓聚乙烯針對自然環境地應力(有機化學與機械設備功效)是很比較敏感的,耐高溫脆化能力差。高壓聚乙烯的特性因種類而異,關鍵在于分子式和相對密度。選用不一樣的生產制造方式必得不一樣相對密度(0.91~0.96g/cm3)的物質。高壓聚乙烯能用一般熱固性塑料的成形方式(見塑料造粒)生產加工。

Materials with different relative density (0.91-0.96g / cm3) must be obtained by using different manufacturing methods. High pressure polyethylene can be produced and processed in the form of general thermosetting plastics (see plastic granulation).
